Profit rose to $22.6 million, or 41 cents per share from $17.8 million, or 28 cents per share, last year. Revenue rose to $126.8 million from $84.4 million in the year-ago period.
Results surpassed Wall Street projections for earnings of 31 cents per share on revenue of $113.7 million, according to analysts polled by Thomson Financial.
The company said strong demand from mobile handset manufacturers had a positive impact on revenue during the period. OmniVision said it increased its inventories during the quarter due to the strong demand.
OmniVision expects fiscal third-quarter profit in the range of 42 cents to 47 cents per share on revenue between $130 million to $140 million. Wall Street expects earnings of 33 cents per share on revenue of $117.9 million.
